Overview: Sterling Archer is the world's most daunting spy. He works for ISIS, a spy agency run by his mother. In between dealing with his boss and his co-workers - one of whom is his ex-girlfriend - Archer manages to annoy or seduce everyone that crosses his path. His antics are only excusable because at the end of the day, he still somehow always manages to thwart whatever crises was threatening mankind.
Archer (FX)

Archer on FX is one of those shows that I've seen episodes of while flipping through channels but never really made a point of watching. The episodes I had seen caught my attention so I finally made a point of 'binge watching' all of the first five seasons on Netflix.

For those not familiar with the show, it is an animated half-hour show on the FX network about an international spy agency that is more dysfunctional than any group of people with guns should be. You name a vice and it was likely covered. Heck, the entire 5th season was even renamed "Archer Vice" (a nod to "Miami Vice" but "vice" could apply any number of ways with this show).

There are some raunchy scenes at times, and, it should be noted, it is an animated show meant for adults, but it also has some great one-liners and recurring gags. There are also plenty of pop culture references along with some, surprisingly, classic literature references.

I haven't seen any of S6 yet... finding it On Demand from FX on FiOS doesn't seem possible.

News coming out this weekend is that the creator of Archer, Adam Reed, is at the moment planning on ending the show after season 10. Season 8 will premiere in 2017 and, like S7, there are only 8 planned episodes for S8, S9, & S10.

Some of the episodes are questionable, and I kind of grew tired of Barry, but for the most part I still find it pretty darn funny.

Seems odd that they would give that much of a heads-up...three more seasons?

I've been waiting on news of when S9 will be premiering but nothing yet.

Hopefully with S9 they go back to the beginning of the series of a bumbling spy agency; the detective agency and period seasons, like Archer Dreamland, are entertaining but I think they lose a bit of their edge. Archer Vice was funny as heck though and the obsession with Smokey and the Bandit showed that they could do the genre/period shows while set in the main story line.

The trailer for S9 of Archer has dropped. Titled "Danger Island", the new season is set as a pulp action adventure on the island of Mitimotu in the 1930's.

Remember, this is all in Archer's head yet since he's still in the coma from the end of S7 so S8 "Dreamland" and now S9 "Danger Island" aren't real, it's all based on Archer's obsession with adventure novels and movies.

It makes me think of the old 1980's show Tales of the Gold Monkey.
