The Thing (1982) - IMDb

An American scientific expedition to the frozen wastes of the Antarctic is interrupted by a group of seemingly mad Norwegians pursuing and shooting a dog. The helicopter pursuing the dog explodes, eventually leaving no explanation for the chase. During the night, the dog mutates and attacks other dogs in the cage and members of the team that investigate. The team soon realizes that an alien life-form with the ability to take over other bodies is on the loose and they don't know who may already have been taken over.

John Carpenter

Kurt Russell, Wilford Brimley, Keith David

I consider this movie as one of my all-time favorite scifi movies. Scifi you say? Scifi - Alien encounter!
There is not much I can say about this film that hasn't already been said. If you haven't seen it yet...Why not? Yes its gory and gross. Yes it is mysterious and frightening. Yes, it is in my opinion a master-piece in many ways and beats the pants off anything recently made.
Outpost 31 is isolated on Antarctica. The scientist team are all men. The movie makes you feel that isolation. It makes you feel the trepidation. It most certainly makes you feel the horror of the situation.
Most of the effects are real models not some CGI green screen. The now iconic spider-head still creeps me out and I have seen this movie more than 100 times.
Playing this movie after the 2011 version gives it even more realism. Someone should release a spliced version of the two as one long movie! I would pay to go see that.

For fans of The Thing (1982) I give you...

- Blair: Killed and taken over by the Thing off-screen.

I actually caught this at the cinema, was reviewing for a Student newspaper, there were 2 of us at the session, the other guy was reviewing for the local newspaper :cautious:

Movie completely tanked but has since become a cult classic. Watch it a couple of times a year, along with the original, and the prequel (which is totally underrated imho)

Even though there were only two crew left in the end, and the camp was burned to the ground we have no proof that either crew member had not been taken over. The thing could just sit down and allow itself to freeze again and just wait for another team of humans to come. Then when it thaws again, it will just begin again.
